Fostering Campus Awareness for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The SDG framework provides an essential perspective for inherently global issues and is part of a broader, international approach to learning that challenges and empowers students, and creates new skills, values, and attitudes.

The SDG Programming Grant aims to raise awareness, promote understanding, and facilitate engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals at Indiana University Bloomington.

Program Goals

Raise Awareness: This program aims to raise awareness of the UN SDGs on campus and engage students, staff, and faculty in meaningful conversations and activities centered around the Goals.
Promote Understanding: The SDG Programming Grant will deepen the understanding of global challenges addressed by the SDGs in local, national, and international contexts and highlight the interdependent nature of these challenges.
Facilitate Action: The SDG Programming Grant seeks to empower individuals and groups to actively engage with and take action towards the SDGs.

Grants of up to $1000 are available for SDG-related programs including, but not limited to: lectures, panel discussions, volunteer events, community engagement, creative/artistic performances or exhibits

Program Details

Eligibility

The following groups are eligible for funding:

Faculty and staff at IU Bloomington
Registered student groups at IU Bloomington with an IU account
Students or student groups who work in partnership with a department or faculty member

Timeline

This grant is currently on pause and not accepting applications at this time.

Application Guidelines

The application includes:

A narrative statement of no more than 1000 words
A detailed budget outlining program expenditures
A brief letter of support (requirement for students and student groups only)

Application Details

Valid expenses may include (but are not limited to):

Accommodation
Catering and hospitality
Supplies and printing
Honoraria (excluding IU faculty and staff)
International wire transfer fees

The budget should include subtotals for each category of expenses, and details of matching funds if available.

SDG grants cannot be combined with other OVPIA funding for the same project.

A committee comprised of faculty, staff, and student representatives will review the proposals on a rolling basis. The committee will assess each proposal based on:

its alignment with the UN SDGs;
connection to global issues;
potential to raise awareness and understanding;
feasibility;
anticipated impact on the campus community.

Collaborative proposals involving multiple departments, student organizations, and/ or community partners are encouraged.

Recipients of the SDG Programming Grant will be expected to:

Include the relevant SDG icons on all their publicity materials to visually signify the alignment of their events with specific UN SDGs
Include the IU Global logo on all publicity materials
Incorporate a brief introduction of the SDGs during their events to ensure that every event funded under this initiative actively raises awareness and understanding of the SDGs
Submit a short final report after the conclusion of the event including a final budget
